I’m Debbie, the face behind Debbie Goerner Photography.

I am a wife, a new mum, a dog owner, a seeker of adventure and spontaneity and a country girl a heart!

I believe life is about enjoying the good things and doing things that you love and I am so lucky that I am able to follow one of my passions as a career.

My passion for photography developed in high school so I followed my dream and studied photography at TAFE, but I found I learnt so much more about my work by being behind my camera, developing my business, letting my creative style free and meeting many beautiful souls along the way.

Everyone has a different story in life. But mine might just be one of the craziest you have heard. Prepare yourself.

I grew up on a farm in the River Lands, riding quad bikes at the age of 4 and learning to swim at 18 months. I spent some time in Adelaide before relocating to Victor Harbor for a few years. Now, I live in Kadina with my husband, my (overly energetic) baby girl, 2 boxer dogs and a few handful of goldfish.

My best friend (a.k.a my husband) and I met on the internet. Our first date lasted 3 days and involved a spontaneous road trip to the Grampians in Victoria! It’s true what they say, when you know, you know. My husband and I married exactly one year from our first date in a very, very low key back yard wedding.

Our wedding went a little something like this:

We had recently purchased our family home, so of our guests believed they were attending our house warming party

We made a quick speech to thank everyone for coming

A ‘friend’ stood to make a speech

This ‘friend’ was actually a wedding celebrant

She informed our guests that they weren’t actually attending a house warming, but instead a wedding and immediately commenced our wedding ceremony

We were both wearing thongs and we had our dogs (a.k.a fur children) by our side the whole ceremony

During our ceremony as we exchanged rings, our celebrant may another surprise announcement, that we were becoming parents!

Not a single guest (other than our celebrant) knew of our plans for our day. But I am happy to say that everyone (including all parents) were so happy for us and just love sharing the story of our day with other people!

As you may have worked out by now, I am a very relaxed and individual person. I bring a lot of my personality to my work as a photography. I am very accepting of differences and see no job as too big or too small, too crazy or too simplistic.

My style of photography is honest as my images capture naturally beautiful moments that represent you. My photography is about love, life and real emotions captured in the most unobtrusive way.

When I am behind my camera, it is all about YOU, whether you’re newly engaged, a bride and groom, a family or have a newborn baby; the most important element of our time together is that you enjoy yourself and feel totally at ease as we create irreplaceable memories.

**As I have such a spontaneous life I do not charge travel for Adelaide, Victor Harbor or upper Yorke Peninsula areas.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A PHOTOGRAPHER?

I’ve always loved photography. But it took me a long time to actually call myself ‘a photographer’ (I had numerous weddings under my belt before I actually started calling myself a photographer).
Photography has been a large part of my life for about 12 years.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY  STYLE?

A mixed bunch!
Looking through my work I have elements of traditional, photojournalistic and artistic photography. I believe my main style is a mixture of all of the above as I pride myself on being a lifestyle photographer.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR WORKING STYLE?

I consider myself like a paparazzi (or a bit of a stalker). I blend into the background and aim to photograph things as they unfolds naturally.
The best photographs are captured when my clients are happy, relaxed and comfortable. For me, your comfort is one of the most important elements in an image.

I consider my photography style to be less invasive than other photographers.
My view is that they’re YOUR photos, I am working for YOU. YOU are the center of attention and it’s about what YOU want.

HOW FAR IN ADVANCED DO I NEED TO BOOK YOU?

If you want to confirm a specific date, the sooner the better.
But if you’re happy to take a gamble on my busy schedule, I can be booked with hours notice.

WHAT DO YOU THINK MAKES YOU DISTINCT?

I love photography and I love being a photographer. It is so fun and I am so lucky that my clients allow me to follow my passion and express my creativity.
But photography for me, photography is not a ‘job’ and never will be a ‘job’.
The way I currently (and always will) run my business ensures that there are no stresses and pressures with my photography sessions.
For me, photography is a paid hobby. I photograph for the love of it, not because I have to. I think that really comes across when I am photographing and it also comes across in my photographs.

WHAT TYPE OF EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?

Nikon!

DO YOU SHOOT IN COLOUR AND IN BLACK AND WHITE?

I provide my images in colour and also in black and white.

CAN I GIVE YOU A LIST OF SPECIFIC SHOTS WE WOULD LIKE?

Absolutely!
Let me say this again.. its about YOU. They’re YOUR photos, I am working for YOU. YOU are the center of attention and it’s about what YOU want.

DO YOU PROVIDE RETOUCHIN, COLOUR ADJUSTMENT AND OTHER CORRECTIVE SERVICES?

I provide my images beautifully natural and honest.
I include retouching with focus on colour and adjustments.
Additional retouching can be provided as per discussion at additional cost.

WILL YOU BE SUBMITTING MY IMAGES TO ANY MAGAZINES OR BLOGS?

No.
Just my own website and Facebook.
I request notification if you send any images to newspapers, magazines, etc. Mainly just so I know to keep an eye out for one of my images in print!

HOW MUCH DEPOSIT DO YOU REQUIRE AND WHEN IS IT DUE?

All tentative bookings will be held for 2 weeks without a 20% deposit payment.

Final payments for portrait sessions and events are due on the day.

Final payments for weddings are due one month prior to wedding day.

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY?

Deposits are non-refundable.

Although if your circumstances change and I am notified with appropriate notice as stated on your payment contract your deposit can be credited towards other photography services.

IF MY EVENT LAST LONGER WILL YOU STAY? WILL YOU CHARGE?

Of course and yes.

DO YOU HAVE A PORTFOLIO OF A WEDDING FROM START TO FINISH THAT I CAN BROWSE?

Sure. If we meet in person I am happy to show you a full wedding on my iPad.

IF MY WEDDING SITE IS OUT OF THE AREA DO YOU CHARGE A TRAVEL FEE AND WHAT DOES THAT COVER?

Yes. Although I have quite a large area I do not charge travel for.

As I have such a spontaneous life I do not charge travel for Victor Harbor or upper Yorke Peninsula areas and 100km surrounding Adelaide.

For longer wedding packages that require a longer distance of travel I might request one nights accommodation (nothing special, a room at the local pub etc). I require this for both myself and for you as if it is an early wedding it removes the risk of your wedding photographer running late due to unforeseeable events: a flat tyre, hitting wildlife such as a kangaroo, etc. or if you have a later wedding, it avoids me having to commence a dangerous drive home after a long day.

CAN I CUSTOMIZE A PACKAGE BASED ON MY NEEDS?

Sure you can.
